Where & When to Park The City issues parking permits and enforces parking rules to make it easy and safe for all pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists to get around Davis. Here you will find parking permit information and tools to help navigate your parking options.

How to Purchase Permits.With the exception of visitor permits, the Police Department no longer issues physical permits (stickers & placards). Permits are now virtual and tied to your license plate. Parking permits are available for purchase at the Police Department website.

Residential. Parking permits are required in some residential areas near campus. To determine if you need a permit, refer to the map. Residential permits allow residents to park on the street.

Residents may purchase residential and/or visitor permits online. Please follow the instructions at the Police Department website and submit payment.

Commuter (Downtown employees) Downtown X Permits are available to employees of downtown businesses and valid in designated locations. The cost is $120 per year. As an added convenience, X Permits can be purchased on a month to month basis at $10 per month.

Bike Licenses Licensing your bike with the City provides many benefits including:

  • Theft prevention and recovery
  • Accident victim identification
  • Bike programs to benefit cyclists

Licenses are good for three years and cost $10. Renewals cost $5. The UC Davis TAPS Office next to the Pavilion Parking Structure adjacent to the University Police Department issues licenses between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may also register your bike at Ken’s Bike-Ski-Board  and Green Bicycle Depot. If you purchase your bike at B&L Bike Shop, they will issue a license.
